"Mary Caring for Baby Jesus" Edouard Paupion
This lovely painting of Mary doing some clothes washing while Jesus sleeps is also called "Our Lady of the Waters." It's an idyllic scene; perhaps they are in Egypt. Mary is pounding clothing on the river rock, as people have traditionally done their laundry for millennia. The baby Jesus sleeps in the shade of the bush nearby. A fish has appeared before Mary, and they are regarding each other. It is a moment.
Edouard Jerome Paupion (1854-1912) was born at Dijon, France. He was a pupil of artist Jean-Léon Gérôme, arguably the most famous living painter in the world in 1880. Paupoin has the same style, the careful, calm, well-composed pictures done in a manner now called "Academicism." He painted mostly figures, both historical and romantic subjects. His paintings are still highly prized today.
** IMPORTANT ** There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture in the 8.5x11 size, so the IMAGE IS SMALLEER THAN THE PAPER! For 11x14, the border is about 1.6 inches, and for 5x7, the border is about .5 inch. This is because the rectangle of the painting has a different ratio than than rectangles of the various paper sizes.
- Acid-free paper - Archival pigments, rated to last for generations. - Cardboard backer - Above story of the art - Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
