Vasa Mihich (b. 1933) is a renowned Los Angeles based artist celebrated for his sleek, colorful acrylic sculptures.
Mihich was a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he taught color theory for many years. Now retired as a professor emeritus, Vasa maintains his art practice and active studio in LA.
Optics, color and perception are at the core of Vasa Mihich’s practice.
“Magic Wedge” is an atypical form, yet simultaneously a paradigm of his work for its dynamic color play. Like an illusion or magic, each perspective or position reveals new dimensions of color. Bright blue contrasts with orange, coral tones fade into violet, while pastel green and sunny yellow emerge or disappear. Receding and overlapping each other, the colors provide endless intrigue and a multiple of ways to contemplate the work.
While fans and collectors of Vasa's work are certainly familiar with his cubes or triangles, this curious form is the best of both. As a result it can be positioned in a variety of combinations - and equally fascinating from all vantage points.
